“We are the cause.”
I smiled when I read this environmentally progressive declaration from a Hoosier organization, specifically the Indianapolis Zoo’s My Carbon Pledge campaign. The pledge is simple. Replace old incandescent bulbs with CFLs (now you see why Lowe’s is involved, eh?) to reduce overall CO2 emissions. It’s nothing new, really, for those who are even moderately interested in conservation.
There’s a google map that states, “See how green your neighborhood is.” I don’t want to be too critical of the program as it is an easy measure to reduce A LOT of CO2 emissions. But there is so much more we have to do to green our culture. Nonetheless, you should go pledge now as they are at 4% of their goal. Gently harass your neighbors who are not on their google pledge map.
If we are going to have to deal with an underperforming federal government that is not going to join other countries in a banof incandescent bulbs like Australia, Italy, and Ireland Hassle, this program is a great vehicle to govern ourselves. Federal legislation has yet to be passed and would not be wholly implemented by 2012. Too long.
