Posted late last week, channel 13 attempts some “truth testing” but winds up with a confusing presentation that has more questions than answers. Channel 13 tackles this commercial first:
It’s puzzling how this ad has been categorized as negative by the Daniels campaign. Does the governor not have a tough enough skin to at least handle being called ‘out of touch’? That’s negative?
Both candidates are accepting money from outside the state, so we’ve got a wash on accusations that the other candidate is accepting money outside the state lines. Let’s leave that one alone for now.
I didn’t read anywhere in that commercial that JLT was trying to score some contest on how many miles she’s put on her car getting out to Hoosier voters. Daniels is proud of his RV and grass roots campaign and hats off to him for getting elected based on such a grass roots effort. But don’t think you are or get to be the only candidate to employ such a strategy.
Now, for some fact checking channel 13’s ‘truth test’. The station blindly states that Daniels is running on job creation and low unemployment. Even the most recent news challenges these statements. Our unemployment rate is the highest its been since 1992. Also, the Hoosier Political Report writes,
• Between February 2005 and July 2008, Mitch Daniels has created only 20,500 jobs for the state of Indiana.
• Under the leadership of Gov. Joe Kernan – between September, 2003 and January, 2005 – Indiana gained 52,500 jobs.
Then there is the claim by channel 13 that the Daniels administration enjoys strides, “made in Great Lakes water conservation, land conservation, water and air quality, clean coal technology, and a test project to turn municipal trash into ethanol.” A new refinery on the Lake Michigan that’s been cleared to discharge 54% more ammonia and 35% more solid waste than allowed before by the state does not count as water conservation.
As far as land conservation, it’s a non-issue for Daniels (unless someone can point to specific Daniels lead initiatives) as it has enjoyed some moderate success without Daniels. I’m not sure how much the republicans should be touting fools gold, wait, I mean corn ethanol plants as economic success. And there’s no such thing as ‘clean‘ coal. Touting it as a conservation effort is questionable at best. I will give the Daniels administration some credit for the Benton County wind farm.
So, some truths, some confusion, and some fact all rolled into Channel 13’s ‘truth testing’ the gubernatorial race.

I have to admit I am voting for Andy Horning. So both Mitch and Jill are accepting moneys from out of State…both of them are out of touch! So why didn’t WTHR channel 13 do some truth testing with Andy Horning? I would find it very interesting indeed, compare Mitch, Jill, and Andy against the Constitutions of the State of Indiana and the Federal Constitution. But I wouldn’t expect any major media outlet to measure any politician against any Constitutional boundary. (I doubt any of the two major parties or media could cite a single article or section of the Indiana State Constitution!) That would mean that some journalist would have to actually read the Indiana State Constitution. And may find out, by doing so, that most government spending is unconstitutional, that most tax codes are unconstitutional, and trampled liberties are unconstitutional. Who has time for that? Could you imagine the really hard questions that would have to be asked if that were to happen? “Pays the same” to be lazy.
Hoosiers need tax relief, people are losing thier homes, foreclosures, 800% increases in property taxes!
Read your State Constitution folks. See what Jill and Mitch don’t want you to know!
I am voting for Andy Horning, he opened my eyes. He truly cares how you are being screwed and ripped-off. He want’s to fix this mess. He has made the Indiana State Constitution his platform! Have faith, vote for principle! Vote for Andy! “A vote for the lesser of two evils is still a vote for evil.”
