A fabulous Op-Ed piece from the LA Times on Palin:
This isn’t the first time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees with him and opposes everything most other women want and need. Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It’s about making life more fair for women everywhere. It’s not about a piece of the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It’s about baking a new pie.
I also love the point that Palin being touted as a tax-cutter is flawed as Alaska had no income tax or sales tax before she even stepped in as governor. But back to the point, Palin was selected not because of her gender, but because of her stance on right-wing patriarchal values which include, among other things, abstinence only programs that create more teen mothers and spread sexually transmitted diseases and a woman’s right to govern her own body. I can’t wait till we get over this media personal scrutiny of Palin, or the right’s accusations that the media is focusing too much on Palin’s personal life (or a little of both) and we move back to the issues of the economy, Iraq, class parity, and our dependence on oil. Obama and Biden are going to chew them up.
