Good Lord, what is the White House trying to do with the role of the Treasury Secretary?

This smacks of opportunism as an attempt to consolidate power into the executive branch.  The bail-out package from the White House scares me in its blatant lack of accountability and oversight.  From the Huffington Post,  “32 words that none dare utter”:
Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed [...]

Andre Carson attends White House Iftaar dinner with Bush

Andre Carson joined president Bush on the 17th in wishing Muslims around the world, “Ramadan Mubarak.”  The White House held it’s annual dinner celebrating the month of Ramadan, a tradition started by the Bush White House.  Carson was in attendance and received a nod from the President in his introductions.
A few words from the President’s [...]

Another casulity of the Bush II era – Latin American Relations

Yes, I have issues with American hegemony in places like Latin and South America.  Yes, the ideas of social democracy being implemented in places like Bolivia could be a model for certain aspects of our own failing economy, contrary to the intention of our past capitalist, pro-American dialogue (let’s swallow some pride and look outside our borders [...]

Sen. Lyndsey Graham – McCain healthcare and tax policy is ‘absolutely’ an extension of Bush

How do you counter the short-sided, absurd phenomena that is “Drill, baby drill”?

Frame it as the scandal it is.  Re-define the “Drill Baby, Drill” the phenomena that is has become.  Use ThinkProgress.org’s phrasing ”Drill Baby, Drill Scandal”.  Call it “Sex, Drugs, Oil”.  It doesn’t matter (though please avoid using anything with the ‘gate’ suffix.  It’s terribly uncreative and overused).

Instead of Democrats caving and joining in to support ‘limited’ domestic drilling, use the gift that [...]

Bush approval ratings: McCain vs. the public

I just can’t get enough McCain youtubes. Pretty straightforward numbers, no?

Rhetorical Criticism – George Bush Senior’s “Just War”

Here’s another rhetorical criticism critique I put together for a class this last spring semester.  The rhetor is George Bush Sr.  The setting is early Gulf War I (1991) where George Herbert Walker rationalizes his actions by declaring Desert Storm a “Just War”.  Now that we have a few years of context, defending our military [...]

“Mission Accomplished”, take two!

Well, if Jon Taplin’s excellent reaction to Alan Greenspan’s declarationthat the invasion of Iraq was a pre-meditated grab at oil wasn’t enough to rouse you to rise up…
and
if the more recent disclosure that Western oil companies have been awarded no-bid short term contracts to Iraqi oil (giving them tremendous advantage for long term bids) wasn’t enough another slap in the American people’s [...]
